THE VERY FIRST VAN DER GROEF

#  Archetype-picture of  JACOB JACOBSE ,  one of my far distant ancestors , born in or around the year 1676 ,  who had moved to the small place of Dirksland on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in the country of the Netherlands by the end of the 17th century .
Jacob most definitely wasn't the only one who had 'emigrated' to the village of Dirksland in those days : so did his brother  ZACHARIAS JACOBSE  and so did  JOHANNIS JACOBSE , PIETER JANSE , an other man named JACOB JACOBSE as well , ARY TEEUWISSE  and many other men , all with just one purpose :  work , btter work and a better prospect in all of their , as can be assumed without all too many doubts , very poor and possibly even miserable lives .....
But where then did they all so suddenly come from ??
All these people must have come from the very same Dutch village in the south of the province of Zeeland , named Groede = De Grovv =  De Groef  -  and since they all came from that same place , they were all , from the moment they 'went ashore' in Dirksland , named after this village and thuswise since then known as 'Van Der Groef', simply meaning : '(coming) From De Groef'.

So Jacob Jacobse became  JACOB JACOBSE VAN DER GROEF ,  his brother Zacharias became  ZACHARIAS JACOBSE VAN DER GROEF ,  and so on .

Zacharias married NEELTJE ROTTE  and they had children and (lots of) descendants until this very day .

And how about Jacob , one of my earliest known ancestors ??
In one of the last years of the 17th century Jacob entered into matrimony in his new dwelling-place Dirksland to  LENA LEENDERTSE SOLDAAT ,  born and raised in Dirksland , daughter of  LEENDERT LEENDERTSE SOLDAAT  and of  ARIAENTGE ARENS ROSE ,  also born in the village of Dirksland .

Seven children were born of the marriage between Jacob and Lena :  three daughters , four sons .
One of these children , their son Leendert , was baptized under an ther familyname though :  DOSIJ , which means something like : little box ...?
We suppose that Dosij was a kind of nickname of Jacob and that this (nick)name now was passed on to one of his children  -  unfortunately this child didn't get any older than just four years .
The name of Dosij was completely vanished now within this family , but that certainly cannot be said of that ther familyname , the name of Van Der Groef ....

The other six children all grew up , became young adults , got married and had children themselves, quite a lot of children even in some cases , and lots of grandchildren nd great-grandchildren etc. ......
Daughter  MARIA VAN DER GROEF  for instance got married to  PAULUS HUBERTUS NACHTEGAEL  and had all together  8 children , 38 grandchildren , 65 great-grandchildren ....and then we are 'merely' counting descendants born and raised under the familyname of Nachtegael , so excluding all the offspring with different familynames , the (great-)grandchildren of their daughters .....

Finally , in order to conclude this ancient personal family history , I dare to state that now and here , so shortly after the start of a brand new millennium , there must be an extended , vast group of people , living in the Netherlands , Canada , the United States , Argentina and elsewhere , who all must be , through whatever specific line of descent , the far distant descendants of Jacob Jacobse , j.m. (= young man) van de Grovv , later better known as Jacob Jacobse van der Groef , nd not to forget of his spouse Lena Leendertse Soldaat , who once , in the declining years of the 17th century , on the 23th of the month of April in the year 1696 , plighted their faith to eachother in the place of Dirksland , stayed together until their final days and passed on their genes to future generations .......

I am one of their far distant descendants , and by the way :  you , whoever you are and wherever you may live , might , just might , be one of them as well ..........
