History
Although in Belgium namesakes at present no more live, the origin of the Dutch family is find bruggeling "Southern".
Declaration of the name
The family name Bruggeling is an alternative of the name Bruggelinckx.
That is, as it happens, in 17de and the 18de centuries the most current form of this family name in Brussels, the place of origin of the family Bruggeling.
The name Bruggelinckx one comes in the 17de centuries in several forms against: e.g.. Bruggelinckx, Bruggelincx, Bruggelincks, the senior form that we meet sounds: Brueckelincx.
The name can be explained as a name.
The west-Vlaamse city Brugge or possibly the village Brogel (original Breugel or Brugel), now: Large Brogel in Limburg (Belgium) put us however on a found oneself leg when we search the roots.
It is probable that the name has been inferred of toponiem of Brussels, Netherlands. The Bruekelyns court, situated in sint Gillis-bij-Brussel.
A.Wauters, Hisoire of the environs the Bruxelles, share 10-A, p. 9, p. 32 (republication 1973).
In the same municipality we find also the Brukelenbos and the Brukelen - (or: broekelen) source. The Bruekelyns court are already mentioned in the 15de centuries and were then in possession of the old family of Brussels were. Probably the for parents of the family Bruggelinckx lopsiders of this court were.
Genealogies family of Brussels was: Genealogy of the families inscribes own Linage Sweerts and 1376, in: Brabantica (an expenditure of Genealogical Belgium), cord 5, share 2 (Brussels, 1960), p. 425.
Regularly in this genealogist sketch it is referred to a parish of Brussels. The capital counted Netherlands. Original six parishes, this is;
- Finisterrae (* close the centre of the city)
- Sint-Catharine (to the border with Laeken) also "kathelijne parish" called
- Sint-Goedele (close the centre of the city)
- Sint-Gorik (in French: Saint-Géry)
- Sint-Niklaas (centre of the city)
- Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-van-de-Kapel (also Kapellekerk'genoemd)
gillis"isgillis"is gillis"is no parish of Brussels. It is the name of a municipality at south of Brussels, now a part of the metropolitan district of Brussels. This municipality became in the past also Obbrussel"genoemd.
Oldest indication
In the Brabantine municipality Liedekerke - to the county Flanders in the past belonging - we find the at present oldest indication of the family bruekelincx bruggelincx.
In 1561 and 1564 we find here mentioned: Michiel Brueckelincx, zoon of Michiel, which with Joanna Stroodeckers married *.
Although for this still the proofs are lacking, it seems our probable that they are the parents of Michiel Bruggelincx who established them in Laeken (close Brussels).
* Town file Aalst: Outside porters of Aalst, register 2039 folio 101verso
Indeed, when this last established himself in Laeken and is children let baptise, there some persons as baptism peters and -ometers at called became who indicate origin unarguable on the East-Vlaamse.
As of those baptism peters we see e.g.. In 1597 lord Judocus Steelants. These were initial pastor in Liederkerke but in 1586 pastor was appointed in the parish Voorde. Pastor Steelants to the Praemonstratenzer abbey belonged Cornelius of Ninove, he died there around 1606 *.

Also in adjacent Oost-Vlamse the municipalities Okegem, Voorde and Denderleeuw lived at the end of the 16de centuries namesakes.
N.B. Some municipalities in the immediacy of Brussels were incorporated in 1921, by the capital. For this reason (Laeken) or adjacent Neder-over-Heembeek do not show ' Laeken ' to all cards. Laeken lies in the north of Brussels.
